One side views guns as being about public safety, the dangers inherent in unchecked proliferation.
One side views guns as the last best refuge of the citizen against encroachment by a radical government.
These are two different worlds. Theses are places the are not inhabited by the same breed of cat.
To some, government is capable of good things.
To others, government is capable of grand evil and worse.
To stand with, for government, federal government is an act of a certain perception of reality.
To stand against, leery of federal government is another.
Many individuals seem to flirt with ideas of various secessions, nullifications.

The authoritarian right. The authoritarian left. The authoritarian holies of all types and stripes. The magisterial possessors of the word, the path, the right, the sun of being, the manna from heaven that springs. All hearts and souls.

If the middle is actually going to set an agenda and have actions and policies and philosophies that enhance the possibilities of getting a broad based, established, functioning middle class than it will have to buck the inertia that lies in its way, in its wake.
Nothin' for nothin', power to the powerful, the culling of society of the undesirables, political plays set to go after power, nothing more, the power of the purse of the godly being more influential than the actors of government.
Corruption of all types and stripes goes with the territory of politics. Corruption bends resource, ideas, lives, canon fodder towards the rational aims of the corrupted, the corrupters .... no pain ( for the losers ), no gain.
Interests are always in place. Interests have to always be challenged. Other than talk where will the sainted middle get the goods, the pathways, the standing to change the course of the grand ship of state?

Stakeholders votes mean something as long as they are legitimate stakeholders who may actually punish those in their way.
Stakeholders votes mean something as long as they are legitimate stakeholders who may actually punish those in their way.
Voters vote as stakeholders in the systems in which they have a voice. They are stakeholders,, participants in the process of turning their opinions and desires into the shape that the system takes.
The process is mechanical. Voters choose people and options that crank the system and let it churn. The nature of the system is what responds to the crank. If a crank churns out means, methods, meanness in line with the pressures of those voting than it works out a reasonable synthesis of their aims.
If the crank just spins wheels and pushes levers that have the built in limitations of shell games and garish fronts then we get the big shows and grand pretenses.

With the death of serious media and their forays into the lost leaders of possible agenda setting, critical eyes towards fools, follies, empty chairs and puppet masters the circus drives the talk. The lowest commo0n denominators drive policy.
Fights for clicks and tricks and sugar daddies and master serving run the gravely minted known world. All pantomime and talk is gamesmanship. All pantomime and talk is public bowing and relations.
